I think the old mindset is hardly imprinted in many brains. The Taylorism way of working. Everyone is responsible for a single part, and this is exactly what makes products worthless.

From my experience, discovery process can be revealing once all disciplines are involved. It's not about delivering more features, or increasing the speed of the factory. It's all about identifying opportunities and experiment with different solutions until something can deliver real value.
